The power of (sharing) food
Shared dining was a food trend for the Baloumis brothers way before it became famous all over The Netherlands. So when Proto first saw the daylight, it was in the shape of a tapas bar and restaurant.

‘Just like home’
Not only tapas and shared dining are on the menu, but also salads, soups, and multi-course menus are presented in the restaurant in Alphen aan den Rijn. All of it in the abundant, Mediterranean style, with the high quality and signature feeling of “back home in Greece”.
A culinary insitute
Both the restaurant and the team grew, and the fan base grew along. Proto became like an institute for people living in the area to have brunch or lunch in Alphen aan den Rijn. Or to come for afternoon drinks, and to unintentionally end up staying until closing time. Groups, too, know our welcoming arms and rely on our signature Greek hospitality when they want to celebrate a special occasion. Proto loves to host meetings and events, with pleasure.
In our little showpiece, our front-store deli, one can drop by daily for a richly filled sandwich or to pick up a sweet or savoury treat. To join a heartwarming cappuccino, for example. Or as the perfect pair to the ideal glass of wine. All of it is made with the same overflowing love for food, driving Proto 365 days per year.
